And the story goes...

Humble Beginnings

It all started in 1996 with $400, a lot of hope, doubt, and stubbornness.

Laura Renata Rubio grew up in a single-mom household, where she learned the value of hard work and dedication. But traditional jobs weren’t for her—she even got fired from her first job at age 14 by her own mom. That’s when she realized she had two choices: become self-employed or risk being homeless. She wisely chose the former.

Her journey began with support from Mi Casa Resource Center, a nonprofit in Denver that empowers entrepreneurs. After taking a business class at Mi Casa, Laura gained the knowledge and confidence to pursue her dream. With her new skills and a $400 investment, she set out to create something meaningful.

When she first arrived in Taxco, Mexico, Laura believed her silver jewelry investment would open doors. But in a town where soap operas and soccer take precedence, she quickly learned she had to earn her place. She returned to Denver with her small collection, sold most of it, reinvested, and—most importantly—built lifelong relationships with artisan families.

More than 20 years later, those same families are now passing down their silversmithing skills to the next generation—continuing a tradition of creativity, quality, and craftsmanship.

More Than Jewelry — A Connection to Tradition and Family

Walking into these artisan workshops is like stepping into someone’s home. A baby might be sleeping in a hammock, a mother nursing while answering the phone, and a grandmother sweeping the sidewalk. The TV is likely on, playing soccer or a telenovela. When lunchtime comes, the shop closes and everyone gathers to share a meal.

At Renata Rubio 92.5, family is at the heart of everything we do. The deep, personal connections we’ve built with our artisan partners mirror the meaningful relationships we build with our customers.

We believe in a fair and complete process—one where everyone benefits. Like the links of a chain, every person in the journey is essential:

The artisans who pour their skill and passion into every piece

The customers who appreciate the beauty of handmade sterling silver jewelry

The business that bridges both worlds, ensuring quality, sustainability, and fairness

Every creation is more than just jewelry—it’s a commitment to ethical craftsmanship, lasting beauty, and connection.

Artisan-Made in Taxco, Mexico

Every piece of sterling silver jewelry we sell is handcrafted—not mass-produced, not plated, and never made in factories. Our jewelry is created in small, family-owned workshops in Taxco, Mexico, a town renowned for world-class silversmithing.

We do not label our jewelry as “Made in the USA” because each piece is authentically handcrafted in Mexico—the birthplace of exceptional silversmithing. We honor the heritage, artistry, and dedication of our artisan families and remain committed to preserving that legacy.

We believe in doing well by doing good, beginning with fair compensation that reflects the quality of their artistry. Our mission goes beyond designing stunning jewelry—we are preserving the fine skills and culture of future generations of silversmiths.
